showing the impact of Teaching Health Centers & Rural Healthcare

KinoLore provided cinematic documentary video production for Teaching Health Centers, creating mission-driven storytelling that leverages healthcare data visualization and character-driven narratives to drive medical residency recruitment and rural healthcare advocacy.

OVERVIEW

KinoLore Productions partnered with Blue Ridge Health, MAHEC, and the UNC School of Medicine to produce a comprehensive video series highlighting the vital role of Teaching Health Centers (THCs). This collaborative project aimed to demonstrate how training doctors through real-life clinical experiences supports rural communities and ensures a healthier future for Western North Carolina.

The Challenge: Humanizing Complex Systems

The primary challenge was distilling the complex, technical operations of THCs into a narrative that resonated emotionally with a broad audience. As our lead editor noted, the project involved "hours upon hours of footage and interviews" and required an intensive pre-production phase to fully grasp how these centers function within rural healthcare ecosystems.

The goal was to move beyond abstract data. While statistics were necessary to show the "widespread effect," the production team knew the films needed to be "anchored in human connection" to be truly effective.

Our Strategic Approach

We utilized an immersive, cinematic documentary style to weave together personal stories with key advocacy points.

  • Character-Driven Storytelling: We balanced the perspectives of residents, faculty, patients, and leadership to create a "panoramic view" of the program's necessity.

  • Data Visualization: Custom motion graphics and animations were used to translate complex impact data into digestible, visual insights.

  • Comprehensive Coverage: Filming took place across multiple locations across Western North Carolina.

Key Deliverables

We provided a versatile suite of video assets optimized for legislative presentations, recruitment, and public awareness:

  • Flagship Overview Film: A centerpiece 10 minute documentary.

  • Impact Film: A 6 minute film purely focused on the impact of this program, and what the region would look like without it.

  • Targeted Content: Specific films for website presentation, resident recruitment, and impact advocacy.

  • Social Media Suite: Five social media excerpts and optimized versions of all films for various platforms.
